Ghazal: Form and Repetition

- Matla → opening couplet
- Qafia→ scheme rhyme — only occurs in the second line of every succeeding couplet
- Makhta —the last couplet which contains the authors name
- Radif → refrain that occurs in both lines
- Includes couplets which can be independent and unified
- Story can continue with and without the independent couplets — couplets can be removed and the overall poem can keep the same message— couplets can also be rearranged
- Contains a signature couplet
- Minimum of 5 couplets — no maximum limit to how many couplets the poem can contain
